Our Commitments to a More Sustainable Future
Share
Sustainability drives everything we do, from creation to disposal - our commitments help reduce indoor air pollution, minimise carbon footprint and prevent excess waste from ending up in landfills. Here’s a deeper look at everything we’re doing and everything we’re using to ensure Lit by Drew is committed to a more sustainable future.
Ingredients & Materials
Wax - we're super proud to say our wax blend is all-natural, made using only coconut and rapeseed oils. Blended in Europe, it’s highly renewable, biodegradable and burns cleanly. The wax contains no paraffin, soy, palm, beeswax, or synthetic additives and has zero links to deforestation.
Wicks – our wicks play a huge part in keeping our candles clean, they're made from cotton and linen, both of which are renewable plant fibres. Cotton is harvested from the fluffy seed pods of the cotton plant, while linen is derived from the woody stalks of the flax plant.
Aroma - all of the essential oils we use are true natural compounds. Fragrance oils are responsibly synthesised, completely free from toxic byproducts like phthalates and parabens. Every single oil adheres strictly to IFRA standards – this is the global representative body and self-regulatory organisation for the fragrance industry – they set the minimum and maximum limits for each individual fragrance and essential oil, ensuring everything is safe for human health and the environment.
Ethical Sourcing & Manufacturing
Production – every single candle is created, tested and hand poured inhouse by Lit by Drew in the UK. We produce what we are forecasted and committed to selling, eliminating the environmental impact of overstock.
Operations – we’re always striving to be more energy efficient, whether that’s by improving our equipment to melt higher volumes of wax at once or staggering our pouring schedule to retain heat. Where possible, we’ll also produce during peak daylight hours to reduce electricity use.
Vegan friendly – we are a vegan-friendly home fragrance brand, committed to avoiding animal byproducts and supporting supply chains that do not exploit animals.
Packaging & Shipping
Zero-plastics - we’re plastic free, every single order is shipped using recyclable materials like paper bubble wrap, shredded recycled paper and packing peanuts made from plant-based cornstarch. Ever wondered if your packing peanuts are biodegradable? Drop one into a glass of warm water. If it dissolves in a few minutes, it’s biodegradable. If it floats and stays completely intact, it’s plastic.
Product Labels – all of the product labels we use for our candles are made from agricultural waste like leaves and stems – if you look closely, you’ll see little flecks of nature throughout the paper. They’re biodegradable, purposely designed to break down over time.
Repurposing - whilst we do not currently offer a refill service, all of our vessels can be recycled or reused for things like storage and decoration.
Lightweighting - over the years we’ve simplified our product packaging, whilst still managing to maintain structural integrity. Redesigning artwork to create less void space (which reduces things like overall physical weight) has not only equated to less materials being used, but also a smaller carbon footprint and fewer emissions during transportation. And of course, much less waste!
Logistics – we’re consistently opting for eco-friendly shipping providers like DPD and Royal Mail who utilise route optimisation and carbon offsetting to reduce their transportation footprint.
For us, sustainability isn’t a buzzword - it’s a practice and a journey towards a cleaner, brighter world.
